Birdhouse Fixer-Upper…

As you know, I love to find unique pieces that I can transform or bring new life to. This old and tired birdhouse had seen its better days…bless it! Not to mention it was a great deal at my local GW. As soon as I saw it, I knew what I wanted to do.

You see I also have a little obsession with Rae Dunn. Do you guys know this designer? She designs the cutest pottery pieces. Mugs, pitchers, etc. If you don’t know her, I dare you to look her up.., addictive, I’m just telling you. However, some of her pieces can be very hard to find at your local Tj Maxx or Marshalls. Due to the scarcity of some of the pieces, many have found they can sell them on Amazon or eBay for 2 to 3 times the price…and some even more.

Anyway, I have been looking for a Rae Dunn birdhouse, and much to my surprise they are hard to find or very, very expensive to buy.  So as soon as I saw this worn out piece, I knew it was my opportunity to make my own Rae Dunn inspired piece.

I first cleaned the piece with just some Clorox wipes and gave a light sanding to remove the excess grunge. I then removed the mass of hot glue and moss from who knows where. It immediately began to take on a new vibe.

After it was cleaned and lightly sanded, I knew I wanted to give it a distressed rustic farmhouse feel. I decided to paint it black before adding my favorite linen chalk paint.

It took two coats of linen white paint to cover to my liking. I then distressed lightly to get the rustic vibe I was looking for on the piece.

My next step was to create a stencil on my Silhouette Cameo and go to work. Just a little tip…If you are a stencil maker or painter, clear Contact paper is my favorite source to use as my transfer on to my projects. And voila! I created my own birdhouse fixer-upper with Rae Dunn flair. I know Chip and JoJo would be proud 🙂

This was a super easy fun transformation project! Don’t overlook hidden gems as you are out and about each day.

Each time I create or redesign a piece I am reminded of Ephesians 2:10: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” You see I am a creation too that He has transformed! I too was changed into a new creation! My projects remind me daily that I am here to show love, patience, compassion, kindness, and gentleness to this world. But the greatest of these… is love.

Know that you are loved today.

From our hearts to yours…

keep creating with love and laughter…

and never stop sparkling!
